I would go for 2 to 3 yards (or I guess 2 to 3 meters). Out of that amount I would expect you could get a simple top and pants or a dress.
You could also go poke around in the commercial pattern web sites. They have scanned the patterns (front and back) online.
Usually we measure Length of whatever you make.
x2= 2 lengths. Front and back.
Then add 1 length of sleeve length.
So if Length of dress is 40″. Sleeve l is 6″
40×2= 80″
+ 12″

92″

If it is a Pant top. Same (Length x 2)+ (Sleeve L x2)
For Pants you need 1.30 Meters
If it is a special Pant fabric. Means width will be adequate.
If not. If material is like 36″width, then you again need 2 lengths + belt.
Skirts is also Lx2.
So just measure your daughter’s required lengths, and it is done.
I hope I have helped.
I think you should have the patterns picked out ahead of time. Even if you don’t decide on a specific pattern, you can check the pattern package to get an idea of what you need. Even a little extra fabric won’t hurt…you can make matching hair scrunchies if she has long hair, or maybe a little purse to match, etc.
how much fabric do i need for boys 5T shorts (elastic waist) and also for boys 5T cargo shorts?
